Headteacher's Welcome
Welcome to St Matthew Academy
As I step into the role of Headteacher, I am filled with enthusiasm and a deep sense of responsibility in continuing to build on the culture of excellence and ambition for all. I am deeply committed to ensuring every child who walks through the doors at St Matthew Academy has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Together with our dedicated staff, I will ensure the Academy provides a supportive and nurturing environment in which every child feels valued, challenged and inspired to succeed on our shared journey to achieve excellence.
St Matthew Academy is a mixed all-through Catholic school for pupils aged 4-16, located in the London Borough of Lewisham. At St Matthew Academy we have the highest aspirations for all our children to ensure they are academically and socially prepared for the ever-changing world we live in.
As a Catholic Academy, we not only strive to encourage pupils to succeed academically but also to succeed as Catholic citizens of the world. As a Catholic institution, we strive to uphold the values and ethos of the Catholic Church but we are also an inclusive school and welcome families of all faiths as well as families who do not adhere to a religious faith.
Our motto; ‘Let Your Light Shine’ is taken from St Matthew’s Gospel and captures our belief in the unique quality and ability of every individual. We offer our pupils a first-class education based on high quality teaching and experiences outside of the classroom, with pupils making excellent progress in both our primary and secondary phases. We believe every child has the potential to succeed and that there should be no barriers to fulfilling academic and personal potential. We expect every St Matthew Academy pupil to graduate from the Academy with the qualifications, skills and confidence to achieve their ambitions in life.
The St Matthew Academy curriculum encompasses the total experience of every pupil. For us, education is much more than a qualification; it is a way of being that results in an empowered young person who can secure a life of purpose and meaning.
We prepare pupils for a wide range of careers and life experiences by delivering a core set of transferable skills and values. Pupils will achieve their potential and beyond because of a curriculum, support and environment that meets the needs of all learners.
Our vision is to always work with our pupils, parents, parishes and local community to create a positive research-engaged environment for learning and teaching, where everyone is valued and respected.
I believe that excellence is not a destination but a journey, and that our collective commitment to continuous improvement is what sets us apart as a school community. With your support and partnership, I am confident that we can achieve great things together and empower our young people to show integrity, courage and service in the community of which we are all a part.
