BBC Young Reporter @ SMA
The St Matthew Academy Media Centre works with pupils across all year groups of the secondary phase to produce a termly SMA News & BBC young report.
Pupils can sign up to join the SMPC (St Matthew Production Company) and roles are then assigned based on what the pupils are most interested in, but these can also rotate on a termly basis. All pupils that get involved are trained using the video and audio editing software and have the opportunity to work with others and create their own segments for the academy news programme.
The SMA News team source and report the stories, write the script, capture the footage and then edit it all together using our specialist film and editing suite. The final product is premiered on the SMA YouTube channel for staff, pupils, and parents to enjoy.
The programme teaches and allows our pupils to have professional media industry opportunities, meet deadlines, work as a team across different year groups, use technology in a complex and professional way, make something creative and fun, and gain transferable skills such as good communication, leadership, time management, and written, research and analytical skills.
