St Matthew Academy is a fully inclusive caring Catholic community where every child has the opportunity to ‘let their light shine’.

We have a Grammar + programme that nurtures and develops the academic potential of the most able pupils. They are fully stretched and challenged to achieve exceptional results at GCSE and leave St Matthew Academy prepared for further study at top colleges and universities.

On entry to Year 7, Grammar+ pupils are identified using prior attainment data. We guarantee a place on the programme to any pupil who has sat and passed an external 11+ exam or is in the top 10% of pupils in the year group. 

As an inclusive academy we understand that children can adapt and change, therefore, membership of the Grammar stream is fluid and pupils must continue to achieve and make exceptional progress throughout their learning journey at SMA to continue to access the G+ offer.

All Grammar + pupils must make minimum progress of one whole grade each academic year to remain in the stream.
